elizabethan corset 1 by immortalphoenix elizabethan corset 1 by immortalphoenix
i sewed this in october of 2003, history class project, actually

the suiting used is a very pretty deep red-pink, lined in black poplin, brass grommets, black lacing, 39 pieces 1/2" spring steel boning (it weighs a TON)

i hate how this fits, it doesn't have straps, it's cut too long in the sides so it rides up, it digs in under my arms and in my hipbones even though i put the tabs there, it's cut too high in front, it just fits badly in general

too late, i've already massacred it for the boning, everything but the steel is in the trash

A note on corsets: when making one with a lot of boning and a busk closure (the heavy hook and eye strip shown at the front in the first link) you will be spending around $50 on that alone, plus your fabrics, and any eyelets. Also, unless you can either make your own pattern or are skilled at changing pre-printed patterns, you may not want to take a corset on until you have more experience, because it will more often than not, end in dissapointment. Just a warning, but they are very fun, so long as you have the skills to do it! ;p

Heehee, Ive made a good few. In my elizabethan, I could not find steel boning, and joanns is pricy for plastic boing, so I bought about four plumbers tapes from home depot, put on my leather gloves and safety goggles, and cracked the cases. It is very thick and stiff, so not great for most things, and you haave to be really careful not to cut yourself, because they are not meant to be opened, and spring out violently, if you don't do it slowly, and grab it before it can, then let the coil out. It was an intresting experiment. If you wanted to try some time, I could tell you the details of how to do it with out geeting hurt. =P

yeah, i could make that. i've made five corsets to date, three similar to that style, and if you wanted some more examples of my work, you could a) hop over to my house and poke around my sewing room or b) wait a week or two for me to put up pictures of stuff i've finished and neglected taking pictures of. the only restrictions on adding the lace, if you wanted it, would be your budget on this, because it wouldn't be difficult at all to put it in. due to my not wanting to put my phone number on the internet, talk to kari and she can give it to you if you're interested.
